Who we are
Willow (“Willow,” “we,” “us”) is a habit-first book tracker for iPhone, iPad, and Android. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Questions: willowapp.it@gmail.com
Information we collect
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and related authentication details. You can sign in with email or with Sign in with Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple’s private relay address instead of your personal address.
Reading activity. To power streaks, analytics, badges, and your library, Willow stores reading sessions (including timer start/stop and duration), books you add, library statuses (Reading, Completed, TBR, Abandoned), collections, notes, ratings, formats (print or audiobook), goals, and milestone badge progress.
Device and usage data. We collect basic technical information needed to run and improve the app, such as device type, OS version, and app version.
Purchases. Willow Pro is sold through the App Store and Google Play, and entitlements are managed with our purchase provider (RevenueCat). We receive purchase and entitlement status — whether your Pro access is active and which plan you hold. We never receive or store your payment card details.
Camera, photos, and on-device OCR
Camera. With your permission, Willow uses the camera to scan ISBN barcodes and capture book covers for cover OCR. You can decline or revoke camera access at any time in your device settings and keep adding books by search or manual entry.
Cover OCR is on-device. Cover text recognition runs on your device. Cover images used for OCR are processed locally for recognition and are not uploaded solely for that purpose.
Photos. You may choose to add profile avatars or book cover images. Images you explicitly save as part of your library or profile may sync with your account when you are signed in.
Local storage and cloud sync
Willow is offline-first. Reading data is stored locally on your device so you can track sessions and manage your library without a network connection.
When you are signed in and online, Willow syncs your library, sessions, streaks, goals, and related reading data to the cloud so it stays available across your devices.
How we use information
We use your information to provide Willow’s core features: session tracking, streaks and yearly goals, milestone badges, library management, analytics and reading calendars, and sync across devices.
We also use information to maintain security, fix bugs, improve performance, communicate about the service when appropriate, and unlock Willow Pro entitlements you have purchased.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your reading data for advertising.
Sharing
We share information with service providers who help us operate Willow — including hosting, authentication and database services, and purchase entitlement services — under obligations to protect your data.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of Willow and our users.
If you share milestone badges or other content outside the app, that sharing is controlled by you and the platforms you choose.
Account deletion
You can delete your Willow account from inside the app at any time. Go to Settings → Delete Account, or open Profile Details → Delete Account.
Deleting your account permanently removes your Willow account along with your synced library, reading sessions, notes, ratings, collections, goals, and badge progress. This cannot be undone, so export anything you want to keep (for example a CSV of your library) before you delete.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Willow Pro subscription billed by Apple or Google. Auto-renewable subscriptions are managed by the store, so cancel separately in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or in Google Play → Subscriptions.
If you have trouble deleting your account in the app, email willowapp.it@gmail.com and we will help.
Data retention
We retain account and synced reading data for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to provide the service.
When you delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete Account, or Profile Details → Delete Account), we delete the associated account and synced reading data from our systems. Residual copies may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten on our normal backup cycle.
Local data can be removed by deleting the app or clearing app data on your device, subject to your platform’s controls.
Children’s privacy
Willow is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Your choices
Delete your account. Use Settings → Delete Account, or Profile Details → Delete Account, in the app. This is the fastest and most complete way to remove your account and synced data.
Permissions. You can revoke camera or photo access in your device settings at any time.
Subscriptions. Manage or cancel Willow Pro in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or in Google Play → Subscriptions.
Questions and requests. Email willowapp.it@gmail.com if you want to access your data, correct it, or ask anything about this policy.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Willow after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
